About the Event
The opera Carmen, staged with the immortal music of Georges Bizet, is preparing to reopen its curtains at the Atatürk Cultural Center Türk Telekom Opera Hall to present the story of freedom and passion in its most impressive form to art enthusiasts.
A woman in love with her own freedom, a passionate yet destructive love affair, and an inevitable end...
Set against the warm atmosphere of 19th-century Spain, Carmen reveals how love can transform from passion to dependency and ultimately to tragedy.
With her strong and independent character, Carmen stirs an irreversible storm in Don José's life.
One of the most frequently performed operas worldwide, Carmen was composed by the French composer Georges Bizet, with its libretto adapted by Ludovic Halévy and Henri Meilhac from Prosper Mérimée's work of the same name. Although it was unexpectedly criticized when first staged in 1875, it gained immense popularity worldwide after Bizet's death and has become a staple of the opera repertoire.
The story of the opera is set in 1830s Seville.
The beautiful and fiery gypsy girl Carmen radically changes the life of the soldier Don José, drawing him away from his respectable life and onto a completely different path. Yet, when the winds of love shift, matters become irrevocable for Don José.
This unforgettable production's orchestra will be conducted alternately by the internationally renowned conductors İbrahim Yazıcı and George Pehlivanian.
Brought to the stage by the vision of Vincenzo Grisostomi Travaglini, the set design by Zeki Sarayoğlu, and the costume designs by Ayşegül Alev and Gizem Betil, the work will find new breath on stage.
Choreography will be entrusted to Ayşem Sunal Savaşkurt, lighting design to Giovanni Pirandello, and dramaturgy to Ravivaddhana Monipong Sisowath.
Choir Master Paolo Villa and Children's Choir Master Gizem Berrak Taş Güzeloğlu will enhance the musical texture of the work.
Carmen is set to offer a unique experience where love, freedom, and passion come to life on stage.
