About the Event
Istanbul State Opera and Ballet is staging the 'Don Giovanni' opera...
The masterpiece composed by the Austrian musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, first performed in 1787, has secured a prominent place among the great works of opera literature. It is said that Richard Wagner claimed Don Giovanni to be 'the opera of all operas'. This opera, with its libretto penned by the brilliant librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, can be described as a black comedy. It arose from the convergence of human nature's best and worst, spiritual and worldly desires, comedy and tragedy, all merged through Mozart's genius.
Don Giovanni… The flirtatious, unrestrained, rule-breaking, legendary character. Don Giovanni, a Spanish nobleman renowned for seducing women, has made his fascination with women his life's purpose. His wealth and power shield him from facing the consequences of his actions, until one day he goes too far and causes a murder, leading to his own downfall... The resulting chain of sociological crises due to women of various social statuses being unable to resist him, and the psychological analyses of different characters facing the same scenario, are highlighted prominently in the work.
The work is staged by Aytaç Manizade, with the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra conducted by İbrahim Yazıcı. Set design by Efter Tunç, costume design by Serdar Başbuğ, with lighting design by Kemal Yiğitcan. The chorus master is Volkan Akkoç, and Alper Marangoz is responsible for the movement arrangement.
