About the Event
Having a significant place among Turkish composers, Turgay Erdener is one of the names that stands out with his understanding of contemporary music. The artist, who began his music education in 1968 at the Ankara State Conservatory, took piano lessons from Kamuran Gündemir and solfege lessons from İlhan Baran. Later, he switched to the Composition Department and worked with Erçivan Saydam and Nevit Kodallı. After completing his education, he started to work as a lecturer at the same institution.
Erdener, who continues his academic career in the Main Art Branch of Composition and Conducting at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, served as the Head of the Composition Department for a period. He later resigned from his administrative duties to continue his educational and compositional work. He is married to soprano Selva Erdener, one of the soloists of the Ankara State Opera and Ballet.
His compositional approach is built on developing his own unique techniques, rather than adhering to a specific trend, by bringing together different musical approaches. Possessing a broad range of expression in instrumental and stage music, Erdener aims to create a unique language in his works by using both traditional and contemporary music techniques.
