From Mythology to Notes: Ahmed Adnan Saygun's "Gilgamesh" Opera

The monumental work "Gilgamesh" by Ahmed Adnan Saygun, one of the most significant figures of Turkish music, meets the audience in Ankara with its concert version. Based on the Sumerian epic Gilgamesh, known as the oldest epic in human history, this opera transforms into a modern musical narrative through Saygun's compositional genius.

This performance of the work will be executed as a "concert version" stripped of staging elements, entirely focusing on the power of music and vocal partitions. This great work, where history, philosophy, and mythology intertwine, is considered one of the most mature examples of Saygun's polyphonic music understanding and epic narrative prowess.
